The firm is famed for its organizational culture, which is based on lifelong employment relationships and excellent performance. The company has not had a layoff since the late 1940s, emerging from economic downturns strong in part because it holds onto its talent. Mapes, who came to Lincoln Electric in 2010 after serving in numerous leadership and board positions, accepted the award at a luncheon on April 8.
