Renegotiating tariffs is 'the right thing to do,' says a W. P. Carey supply chain expert.
In this story aired May 11, 2025, on FOX 10 Phoenix:
I think renegotiating tariffs is absolutely the right thing to do. But, as I tell my students, a blanket tariff has never solved anything. If you look back at history, you are going to see that blanket tariffs across an entire country — or, in this case, across friends and foes… I'm not sure if it will achieve the desired objectives. Tariffs always work if you identify an industry where a country has taken undue advantage, or an industry that is strategically important to us… so putting tariffs on mangos, avocados, tequila, toys, and pet food doesn't make any sense.
